Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy

In the North East Corner of Italy bordering Slovenia this region is influenced by the Alps, but also the Adriatic sea.  Contrasting airflows make it a versatile region and good for producing both red and white wines.  Collio is known from producing crisp and alcoholic whites, and some pleasant examples can be found in our portfolio for this area below.

The rosso della Centa shows a great balance between fruit intensity, acidity and very well integrated wood. One of the top Merlot from Italy, very elegant.

Borgo del Tiglio, Collio DOC 2015, Friuli Venezia-Giulia, Italy

Collio DOC is the highest expression of the territory, a canvas onto which each producer creates his or her own image of the best white wine of the region. Friuliano was the only grape grown at the estate in 1981, called at the time simply tocai grape. Together with friulano we found in the blend also chardonnay and Riesling, low yields in and late harvest gives to this wine the complexity that deserves. The elegant overtones of this wine with his delicate subtle bouquet make it very drinkable. One glass leads to another.

Wine maker - Nicola Manferrari

Grape Variety - Friulano (former tocai) 60%, Chardonnay 30%, Riesling 10%

Alochol - 14%

Food Match - Versatile food wine to accompany many dishes, including cured meats, strong aged cheese.

After his studies in Burgundy, Nicola decided in 1987 to plant chardonnay. This grape likes cool climate and like in Burgundy the wine is aged in new French barriques from 9 to 14 months. Only 30hl of this precious ‘liquid’ are produced every year. On the nose is creamy with hints of butter and vanilla, a touch of coffee above the tropical fruits. Elegant with an extreme long finish.
